Q: What is the language of education at TOBB ETÜ?
A: The language of instruction is Turkish and English. With our Turkish Language Center (TOBB ETU TÖMER), you will have the opportunity to learn a new language. The English preparatory class is compulsory for all programs except the programs in Turkish literature, History, Visual Communication Design, and Interior Architecture and Environmental Design.
We use both English and Turkish resources for our students to help them get exposed to international sources, keep up with the times and learn terminology in English. Our student takes an English exam that determines their proficiency levels.

A: TRYÖS is accepted. (For TRYÖS exam, at least 60 out of 100 must be scored in order to apply.)

Q: Do you offer scholarships for international students?
A: TOBB ETU offers a variety of scholarship options for international students. Successful applicants will be considered for TOBB ETU Scholarships (Only merit-based scholarship):
- Full Scholarship
- 75% Scholarship
- 50% Scholarship
- 25% Scholarship
Currently, no dormitory or supplementary scholarships are offered to international students. Foreigners moving from other countries to Turkey will have priority if they apply to stay in TOBB ETU dormitories.

Q: Do I need to pay a deposit after getting the Pre-acceptance letter?
A: You will be required to pay a deposit of 1000 $ ( Medicine Program 1500$) towards your tuition fee, in order to secure your place at TOBB ETÜ. If you are coming to study on a full scholarship then you will not need to pay a deposit.
Q: When should I submit my visa application?
A: International students are required to apply for a visa after receiving their acceptance letter.
Q: Should I notify TOBB ETÜ when I receive my visa?
A: Yes! Send us an e-mail at international@etu.edu.tr so that we can prepare for your arrival
Q: What should I bring with me when I come to Ankara?
A: You should pack clothes that accommodate a variety of seasons since Ankara weather is known to change quickly! The temperature in Ankara varies from -5 degrees Celsius in the winter (December through March) to 30 degrees Celsius in the summer (May through August). Bedding (pillows, sheets, blankets) and towels are also essential. Don’t forget to bring with you the documents you provided during your application (certified copy obtained from notaries or Turkish Embassies in English or Turkish).
Q: When can I book my flight?
A: Once you have received notification of your acceptance from TOBB ETÜ, you can start the visa procedure and book your flight tickets.
Q: What can I expect when I arrive in Ankara?
A: If you have notified the International Office of your complete itinerary prior to traveling (and plan to arrive on one of the recommended dates), we will have a university representative meet you upon your arrival. They will help you get situated in the TOBB ETÜ Guest House (if you requested the dormitory) and assist you with any necessary items to be comfortable on your first night.
Q: Should I attend the orientation?
A: Yes, orientation is mandatory for all new international students. You will receive important information regarding enrollment, cultural adaptation, immigration regulations, and life at TOBB ETÜ. If you have not already done so, you will also take placement exams which will help us determine the proper course levels for you.
Q: What is the purpose of orientation?
A: New Student Orientation is designed to prepare you for university life in Ankara. Your attendance at this week-long event will not only help you make informed decisions but will give you the opportunity to meet other students, faculty, and staff before classes even start!
Q: What is placement testing?
A: Placement testing is a process that helps us determine your proper Turkish and English levels. These examinations will take one to two hours. You do not need to study for these tests; however, it is important for you to take these seriously as they will determine your first semester courses.
Q: When and how do I apply for a residence permit?
A: Students who will apply for a residence permit for the first time must apply for a residence permit before the visa or visa exemption period expires. Applications can be made via the https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/ website. TOBB ETU International Student Office provides support to students who will apply for a residence permit throughout the application process and follow-up.
Q: Should health insurance be taken out?
A: Foreign students studying in Turkey are required to have health insurance by the General Directorate of Migration Management. You can get detailed information on the https://e-ikamet.goc.gov.tr/ website.
Q: Can I benefit from the health facilities of TOBB ETU Hospital?
A: TOBB University of Economics and Technology students, academic and administrative staff can benefit from TOBB ETU hospital at a discount.
