Priority is given to students' understanding of drawing tools and materials and the terminology of drawing. Drawing I also provides a theoretical foundation through various visual and written resources.

This course includes the basics of colored and three-dimensional creative processes in design. Color, three-dimensionality, and composition are covered. Analog and digital colors, collages, and vector drawings are produced.

Students are provided with knowledge about the working areas of Visual Communication Design discipline, professional characteristics, recognized designers, and designers' productions. How to use visual expression methods within aesthetic rules and how to apply them are addressed through theoretical and practical research.

This course aims for students to address the relationships of various corporate structures with their target audience from cultural, geographical, and psychological perspectives in visual communication design processes. City identity, city branding processes, and city-specific mascot designs are conveyed through examples. As an application project, an original mascot design for a selected city and a short animation bringing this mascot to life are prepared within the scope of a brand city design. This course requires research and basic design principles, two and three-dimensional perception, color harmony, storytelling, and experimental approaches. While the purpose of the course and the workload for the student remain unchanged, the content of the course may be updated with different topics on a semester basis.

Students are aimed to master pre-press, press preparation, and post-press stages, as well as learn printing techniques and their differences. The process of preparing multi-page publications such as newspapers, magazines, catalogs, etc. for printing is carried out. In addition to learning cutting, folding, creasing, and form calculation, students perform paper, paper waste, color separation, montage, lamination, and binding operations. The course is completed by making an original, creative mock-up application suitable for the content of a multi-page publication using visual communication elements effectively.

Student works produced in this course are intended to be submitted to current competitions and exhibitions. As an application project, animated poster designs are made using stop motion, motion graphic design, and animation skills.

While aiming to convey the dynamics of packaging design through theoretical and applied projects based on the brand/product relationship, successful examples in the market are analyzed. Designing packaging in the context of product-target audience and constructing the user relationship, seeking creative solutions that can stand out among similar products on the shelf, and teaching variables such as dimensional design, color relationships, form, paper types and weight, cutting and folding techniques, material selection and durability, and sectoral factors in the packaging design process are targeted. Making a three-dimensional model of the designed packaging is addressed as an application study.

Fundamentals of advertising, brand identity, and positioning are conveyed through past and current examples. Information related to the research process for advertising design, such as target audience research, creative idea generation, and determining the advertising medium, is conveyed. In addition to printed advertising products such as newspapers, magazines, billboards, and brochures, advertising content that includes teamwork for new media and interactive advertising is designed.
