The Department of International Entrepreneurship, which started to admit students in 2010, is the only department on international entrepreneurship in Turkey. The department aims to educate and graduate qualified workforce with competent knowledge about the key regions of commerce worldwide, experience in the region and sufficient qualities to work within the organizations of international corporations. The syllabus of the department is similar to that of business administration departments. The main difference of the department from the department of business administration is that it provides the students with the knowledge of entrepreneurship specifically as well as a second foreign language and the experience of living abroad. Throughout their education, the students learn the dominant language of the target region (Russian or Arabic) at a satisfactory level in addition to English.

The department focuses on two target regions, and is divided into two subsidiary programs. While one of those subsidiary programs focuses on the Russian-speaking countries, the other focuses on the Arabic-speaking countries. Programs focusing on Chinese-speaking countries and on the EU countries (specifically Germany, the Netherlands or Spain) are planned to be established, and the number of target regions is planned to be increased in the forthcoming period.

Russian-Speaking Countries Program

Introduction of the Program:

The first target region has been determined to be the Russian-speaking countries, which encompass Russia, Ukraine, Caucasus and the Central Asian countries. The countries within the region have been rapidly growing their trade volumes with Turkey and the other countries in the world on account of both their rich energy resources and their rapid development in the infrastructure and construction industries. Such growth has brought along the need for qualified workforce. Turkey poses the nature of bridge for the said countries for its proximity to the region in both cultural and geographical aspects.

Operation of the Program:

The students of the department start their actual education on the basis of the department's syllabus following the completion of the English Language Preparatory Class education. The students, who pass all their courses at the second second grade, attend Russian language preparatory course for one semester. Following the completion of the Russian Language Preparatory course in Turkey, the students go to Russia or Ukraine for one semester also for a Russian Language Preparatory course. Following the completion of the language preparatory program; the students return to Turkey, take the required department-specific courses, and take culture-oriented courses such as the history and geography of and the prevalent rules of business in the Russian-speaking countries at Moscow State University in Russia or Kiev Taras Schevchenko State University or Odessa Mechnikov State University in Ukraine.  In this way, the students both learn about the cultural, economic and commercial structure of the region and gain the experience as necessary to do business in the region locally as they live in Moscow or Ukraine for about a year. In the academic year 2014-2015, some 24 students attended Moscow State University for Russian culture-oriented courses and 19 students attended the same for Russian language preparatory courses.
