“Mattertext” Makes Debut at “Literature Talks 11”

The eleventh seminar of the “Literature Talks” series was held by TOBB ETÜ Department of English Language and Literature at Blue Amphitheater on February 27, 2020. Known for her studies on ecocritical literary theory, Dr. Başak Ağın from METU delivered a lecture entitled “From Manfred to Sabrina Morningstar: Performing the Gothic with Mattertext” to re-interpret gothic literature from a new materialist perspective.

Dr. Ağın’s talk was received with great interest by our students. Her talk firstly summarized the main characteristics of gothic literature that emerged in the eighteenth century, and then concentrated on an ecocritical reading of the popular TV series “Sabrina Morningstar” to exemplify the “mattertext” coined by Dr. Ağın, herself.
