Research Laboratories
Fluid Mechanics Laboratory: Fluid Mechanics Laboratory is used for the academic and industrial researches as well as for the experiences of the course of fluid mechanics.
Computer-Aided Design Laboratory: Computer-Aided Design Laboratory has been established so as to meet the two-dimensional drawing and three-dimensional modelling requirements of the departments which give education in designing area. Thanks to high-performance computer equipment and upgraded software which are prominent in their areas it helps computer-aided educational and research activities of departments. The laboratory is open for the use of academics and students who study in the field of computer-aided design. In the laboratory, the computers cannot only be used individually, but they can also be used commonly through a network for such processes as making animation whose processing power is very high.
Energy Researches Laboratory: The Energy Research Laboratory was put into operation in March, 2010. R&D activities regarding renewable energy resources are conducted in our laboratory. It has infrastructures which help the production of semi-conductive and metallic nano-structures, polymer-based materials and functional thin-films as well as basic electrical and optical characterisations.
General Physics I Laboratory: It has been established for giving applied education in the course of Physics 101. The undergraduate students of faculties of arts and sciences as well as engineering can make applied studies regarding kinematic and Newton physics in this laboratory.
General Physics II Laboratory: It has been established for giving applied education in the course of Physics 102. The undergraduate students of faculties of arts and sciences as well as engineering can make applied studies regarding electro-mechanism in this laboratory.
General Chemistry Laboratory: It has been established to give applied education to the undergraduate students of the faculties of Arts and Sciences as well as engineering. The general chemistry laboratory has been established by taking security measurements. Against chemical pollution, whole laboratory can be ventilated and the air is cleaned within 15 minutes. Moreover, there is a fume cupboard system which can change air 2000 m3/h.
Embedded Systems Laboratory: The laboratory was put into operation in September, 2009.
Computational Fluids Mechanics Laboratory:
Heating Sciences Laboratory: This laboratory is used for the experiences and researches in the course of Temporary Laboratory of Heating. Thanks to the installed measurement, data collection and recording systems, experiments and measurements can be done.
Wireless Networks Laboratory: The laboratory was put into operation in September, 2008.
Decision Support Systems Modelling and Optimisation Laboratory: It is for mathematical programming and development of heuristic models and solution methods so that it is used decision support system in manufacturing service systems. Moreover, it is used in applied teaching of the production information system.
Composite Materials Laboratory: Composite Materials Laboratory was established in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory Building in 2008 for realising the applications of powder metallurgy. The main activities conducted in the laboratory are manufacturing power out of materials which have low melting point and the metal-based composite materials. The photo system, processability, mechanical and ballistic features of the manufactured composite materials are determined. the powder mixer and hot-press unit have been designed and manufactured by the students of TOBB ETÜ. The laboratory is open for relevant academics and graduate students so that they conduct their academic researches.
Control Systems Laboratory: This laboratory has been established for conducting experiences and researches in the course of Control Systems. There are mechanics, fluid, electro-mechanic, thermal, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems as well as the based required equipment for giving education and conducting researches.
Machine Theory Laboratory: This laboratory has been established for conducting experiences and researches in the course of Machine Theory Laboratory. There are various equipments and basic devices in the laboratory so as to give education and conduct researches regarding machine dynamics, mechanical vibration, mechanisms and acoustics. Almost of all of the education-oriented experimental mechanisms have been designed and manufactured in TOBB ETÜ, and they have more advanced measurement and data collection systems in comparison to their counterparts in the market.
Material Testing Laboratory: The Material Testing Laboratory was established in the building of the university in 2005 so as to give education and conduct researches. Getting bigger as a result of the addition of new equipments, the laboratory was moved to the building of Machine Engineering Laboratories in 2007. In the laboratory where such destructive tests as tension- compression, wrenching, impact, fatigue test and hardness test are made, the students are given the theoretical and applied education regarding these tests in the course of Material Science Laboratory. Different heat processing are made by means of the ovens which are in the laboratory and whose heating increase up to 1200 °C. The laboratory is used by the relative academics and master's degree students for conducting researches. The workload of the laboratory which gives service to Turkish industry with material testing as well as providing educational and research services is aimed to be increased in the near future.
Mechanic Laboratory: The Mechanical Laboratory which is used for conducting researches and giving education has the required equipments and devices.
Metallographic Laboratory: Established in the university building for analysing the internal structures of materials, the Metallographic Laboratory has been giving service in the Mechanical Engineering Laboratory building since ever 2007. In the Metallographic Laboratory, the internal structures of the materials are analysed and their grain shapes and dimensions, phases as well as the pore in their structure are determined. the laboratory where education is given to students in the course of Material Science Laboratory regarding the internal analysis of materials is used by the relevant academics and master's degree students for conducting researches.
Micro-Processing Laboratory: The laboratory was put into operation in September 2008.
Nanophotonics Laboratory: Nanophotonics Laboratory was put into operation within the scope of TÜBİTAK 3501 Career project. This project aims to slow down the seed of photons which act at the speed of light. The research subject matters of the laboratory include the manipulation of photon with the structures at the nano-meter level. The target applications include optic communication at the distance of a chip, bio-sensors and renewable energy resources. To be able to make numeric electromagnetic calculations, micro-wave characterisation devices are planned to be purchased for the laboratory which has the required computers. The required equipments for thermo-electrics and solar energy shall be purchased so as to be able to make researches regarding the renewable energy. The laboratory is also used for giving education to undergraduate students in ELE 331 electromagnetic Wave Theory and ELE 452 Phonic courses.
Nanotechnology and Membrane Science Laboratory: Nanotechnology and Membrane Science Laboratory (NMSLab) was put into operation in April, 2007. NMSLab was established by means of prioritizing the security members. Against the chemical pollution, the whose of air in the laboratory can be cleaned within 15 minutes. There are two fume cupboard systems which change the air with at the speed of 2000 m3/h. NMSLab has been established for the development of nano-materials, polymeric membranes and nano composites. Such research projects as manufacturing semi-conductive nano structure for photovoltaic devices, developing and testing composite membranes for water purification systems are conducted within this laboratory. Moreover, NMSLab is used by the Students of Master's Degree in Macro and Nano Technology as well as the relevant academics and students in TOBB ETÜ make use of this laboratory.
System Simulation Laboratory: It is used for the applications and researches for making the simulation models and optimisation of complex production systems which include random control and decision problems.
Superconductive Electronics Laboratory: It shall be used so that the students who will start undergraduate education have experience regarding the superconductive based VLSI circuits, detectors, RF elements (amplifier, filter etc.) low-noise measurement systems and low temperature (-270 0C) systems. And also, it shall be used for designing analogue and digital very high frequency integrated circuits, very sensitive electromagnetic detectors and radiation detectors, which considered as strategic technologies, and making the system integration at the required level so that the manufactured devices are used in the real life. The aim is to make contribution to the superconductive activities in our country and make the superconductive electronic subjects known.
Drove Systems Research Laboratory:
Data Analysis and Blur Systems Modelling Laboratory: It is for making researches and applications in big data sets, drawing information from data, sustentation, variance analysis, multi-dimensional data grouping, classification and making graphs, which are faced in the industrial and public service sectors. The applied methods are statistical methods, data mining techniques and blur system modelling techniques.
Database Systems and Internet Programming Laboratory: It was put into operation in September, 2008.
High Performance Calculating Laboratory: High Performance Calculating Laboratory (HPCLab) was put into operation in September, 2007. It was established for supporting the scientific calculations which need high performance and the researches/ developments needed for parallel calculating. The first equipment of the laboratory was the first group computers which was donated to our university by Sun Microsystems. HPCLab is used by the relevant academics and students for the solution of large-scaled problems which need high calculation power. The laboratory is also used for giving education for high performance, parallel calculating and group calculating.
Multimedia, Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Laboratory: The laboratory was put in operation in September, 2008. The aim is to conduct researches and studies on image processing and image recognition applications such as 3-dimentional object recognition thanks to 2 high-speed cameras in the laboratory. There is a frame grabber connected with a Gigabit-Ethernet, to which 2 cameras in the laboratory are also connected. Ths special card which is used for image-based applications has the capacity to simultaneously process the imaging coming from 4 cameras.
Production Laboratories: The laboratory was established in 2007 in the building of Mechanical Engineering so as to teach various manufacturing methods and manufacturing the needed parts of machines. Machining, welding, cold deformation and casting methods are thought to students practically. Moreover, the students who take part in various projects can manufacture the parts they design in the laboratory under the supervision of a technician.
Human- Mechanical Systems and Ergonomics Laboratories:
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Laboratories: Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Laboratories (IHALab) aims have the unmanned aerial vehicles which can orient their orbits, make automatic aviation, visualising, having video and observing. In the laboratory which has been established with the support of TUBİTAK (Scientific and Technological Research Institution of Turkey), studies and projects are conducted on automatic control, communication, signal and image processing, artificial intelligence and many other relevant subject matters.
